Some fans have gone so deep into the game (Sonic CD), they found a little extra peek at something ultimately cut from the final release:

"It" is called Desert Dazzle zone, according to developer Christian Whitehead. Speaking about it on the Sonic Retro forums, Whitehead said it was part of a planned extra level for the game, but never made it:

Christian Whitehead wrote:Basically, earlier on in the remake’s development there were 2 new levels: Desert Dazzle...

We now know what to expect from the Sonic Generations OST when it goes up for sale next month.

The three disc set will include tunes from both the console and 3DS editions. Among the highlights are the Super Sonic Racing remixed composed by Jun Senoue and Cash Cash. Cash Cash's Big Arms boss battle theme also makes the cut. The fast mixes from Green Hill and Sky Sanctuary Act 2 are also in. If you enjoyed the interludes in the hub world, it appears they will also...

To this point, the online leaderboards for the console versions of Sonic Generations have remained mostly problem-free.

That could change, however, at least on the Playstation 3, on which the video we're about to show you below was recorded. It comes from YouTuber DarkspinesSonic, who says the exploit, while quite monotonous, can freeze the timer during gameplay all the way to the end of the stage:

"So apparently if you pause immediately after unpausing in Sonic Generations, you move but the timer doesn’t. Whenever you bring up the PS3 Crossbar menu,...

We're not sure if this was deliberately planned as a surprise, or if fans will briefly benefit from another trademark Sega slip-up. But it's confirmed that a Sonic CD dashboard theme is available to download free of charge on the European Playstation store.

The theme, from the climactic Metal Sonic race in Stardust Speedway, carries both a good and bad future motif.

We’re technically not yet at Sonic Generations‘s launch day. But TSSZ has learned through a source that development is already well underway on Sonic’s next adventure tailored to Nintendo’s next console–and it’s not a Generations port.

TSSZ has learned Sonic Dimensions, a working title for the next Sonic, will take place directly after Generations and be a spiritual successor to Sonic Colors. We don’t know if this game will necessarily be exclusive to the Wii U, but we’re told it will have visual quality in line with Generations and it will take advantage of many Wii...

On December 7th, Sega announced via their official blog that owners of Sonic Generations digitially via Steam can enjoy the Casino Night DLC beginning the day after Christmas, at a reasonable price.

"This gives players a pinball mini game, set in the Casino Night stage, to enjoy alongside the main game. It would certainly make a perfect little stocking filler for Christmas!"

The DLC will go live everywhere the same day. It will cost $1.99 in the United States,...

On December 7th, rock artist Ted Poley, behind the vocals for Sonic Adventure 2's Escape from the City, released video inside the recording booth as he re-recorded the classic Sonic tune for the recently released Sonic Generations.

If nothing else, it's the song you know and love presented a bit more a capella, though you can hear bits of the music track in the background. But keep listening, and you'll realize the recording is a slightly alternate take from what ultimately made it in the game. Poley explains most of this session, the final session, made the cut:

Two shirts, one with "Sonic, the world's fastest hedgehog," and full color art of Splash Hill with modern Sonic. The latter, if you import, will cost ¥6,300, or more than $82 in US money, and will be released in November. The somewhat more reasonably priced plain shirt runs ¥3,045, or almost $40, with a planned October release.

A couple of keychains will also be released. A small Sonic bag with keychain capability will be released in November for ¥2,100, or more than $27. A standalone keychain will be released the month before...

Both console and portable versions of Sonic Generations were on display at PAX.

When we first showed off Green Hill in action there were plenty of concerns about the game mechanics. Those mechanics are handled on the 3DS by Dimps, who already give fans a bad taste in their mouth with Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I not being up to par. But on this second look, it would appear some of those concerns have been fixed, as they were in several Mushroom Hill playthroughs.

It appears the uncurling is fixed, some of rolling physics have been...

Iizuka again reiterates the stage selection for Generations, and also hints such recreations are a one-time deal. But he also explains the process of outsourcing some recent Sonic titles, only to try and reclaim control over quality issues:

"Originally it was more or less the same team working on all the different Sonic titles, but after a few years, for various reasons, we started to delegate Sonic games to different groups of people.

And everyone in the office has their own idea of what Sonic should be, so we started to see slightly...

Fan game meant to bridge the gap between Sonic 1 and 2.

The game is fairly far along enough so that we'll see a new build in a few weeks at SAGE 2011 with a few levels. We may also see the entire full game released before the end of the year, a rarity for fan...

"Thankfully, the 3DS version is not a diluted version of the console game. It can proudly stand alone. Aside from the opening stage (it’s Sonic, it’s obligatory that the Green Hill stage features), the 3DS version has entirely original levels that do not feature in the console version. I played Mushroom Hill, and happily spent twenty minutes vaulting brightly-coloured fungi. Like Mario 3D Land, stages are brief, which makes perfect sense for the platform. You can greedily devour 3 to 4 levels within the space of ten minutes."

The preview also...

At the start of the game, everyone is attending a picnic in honour of Sonic’s 20th, when all of a sudden a mysterious dark force intrudes and sends everyone, including our spiky blue protagonist, back in time. Sonic is finding a way to get himself and everyone else back to the present time and along the way he bumps into many familiar faces including his younger (albeit chubbier) self! The two Sonics team up and work together to save their friends once again.

WHAT IS SAGE?

SAGE is a virtual expo takes place at http://www.sagexpo.org/. There is no location in real life, the entire event can be accessed from wherever you are for free. The dates this year are September 18th – 24th. SAGE is an event that promotes aspiring game developers that create games making video games based on other franchises, particularly Sonic the Hedgehog. Despite the low volume of the TV, one could determine that the music was without a doubt the Japanese soundtrack. Unfortunately, Ken confirmed that the US soundtrack would sadly not be available in the final version. (Sidebar from me: You can use the Xbox 360’s built in music player to blare your rare Sonic Boom! Music CDs.) What Ken stated on the matter is that they are still working to see what would need to happen on the legal side of things to get the US soundtrack in the final game. While DLC is a possibility, he’d much rather try to include the music for...

Ken Balough, Sega's brand manager wrote: Hi Everyone!!

Ok so I’m at PAx right now showing off Sonic CD to every lucky person who’s attending the show (by the way if you are here – it’s at the MSFT booth.)

But I have a few minutes and I’ve seen some confusion about Sonic CD being a prequel – and it is!! Just as you imagined it.
which is basically my way of saying – allow me to illuminate the situation.

Remember back during Ep 1, I was saying we had outlined a great story for the Sonic 4 Saga?...

Before we talk about Classic Sonic, I want to clear something up. Other previews have been vague on what happens at the end of the Classic Sonic version, and some fan sites have suggested that you may see other old levels within levels due to this. This is simply untrue in Roof Top Run, which we'll explain in due time.

Due to the amount of classic and even modern levels that Sonic Team has not been able to directly include in the game, recreating all these stages from scratch for each Sonic allows them to take inspiration from other sections....
