    If Dmitry Itskov's 2045 initiative plays out as planned, humans will have the option of living forever with the help of machines in only 33 years.

    It may sound ridiculous, but the 31-year-old Russian mogul is dead serious about neuroscience, android robotics, and cybernetic immortality.

    He has already pulled together a team of leading Russian scientists intent on creating fully functional holographic human avatars that house artificial brains which contain a person's complete consciousness - in other words, a humanoid robot.

    Wow... this is incredible, although I'm against it really... immortality... that... just... wow... playing with nature... really badly... Not sure how I feel. I mean... it's incredible, truly is, and impressive, but... wow.

    I know what you mean, I feel like it would be cool to live forever, but then again, being immortal is just somehow wrong.

    By 2055, the richest of people will actually be able to afford it.
    By 2200, most people in the world will be able to afford it.

    By 2199, we'll all be dead. Except for me; I'm too stubborn to die. Matter of fact, I wouldn't need one, I'd just survive on force of will forever.

    So this can either go two ways;

    1. Everyone has one. We over populate this place even more until it's like a sardine can.

    2. Only wealthy Athiests (and people whose religions don't specify a good afterlife) will have them, leading to an uprising against them and dang it that would be a good idea for a novel.

    I agree with Kaotix.

    You can't overpopulate the planet with Robots.

    I think it would be easy to transfer a person's memories into a robot (the last thing they actually want to keep)

    But I think the main question on everyone's mind right now is: If we are all turned into robots... can we still have sex?

    Robots would likely just be temporary until we could alter our genes to such a point that we'd be immortal (Plus other goodies because humans love our meddling.) anyway. Transfer your brain into a robot, transfer it back into a super-improved human-ish body that can have hyper-intimate, hyper-emotional, hyper-sensitive sex due to vastly increased mental and nervous capacity about a hundred years later. And still be immortal.
