Galaxy is the best you'll get in plot for the main-series, so...yeah, that's as good as you'll get.

how about we stop arguing about which game is better because I can wrap it up in about two sentences.

    Sega, great plans, horrible execution.
Nintendo, rehashed story, near perfect execution.

if that doesn't end this topic... well... Colbert take it away.

20th Anniversary - Page 2 Empty new sonic games.

Post by TheLordsbeacon on June 21st 2011, 10:07 pm

Actually I think Sonics' potential has hardly been tapped. There is so much more to explore with Sonic than Mario in my opinion. I have nothing against the Sonic team either. I think Sonic Unleashed was a fun game...Sure there were some really bad platforming elements in the game as the Werehog but overall it was a great game (I realize I am probably in the minority here with Unleashed).

What the Sonic Team needs to do is to not only aim high, but seek to come out with a Sonic game so great, that it makes Mario look like chopped liver. The Unleashed team has the best physics for a modern (daytime) Sonic game and the Japanese company behind Sonic X had the best stories to tell. Combine all of those elements and you might just have one of the best games ever made.

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that Sonic is an old idea...I can agree with that if he were simply a movie, however he is a videogame character. Also, I think Sonic takes on a more timeless quality. He is basically a Super Hero (like The Flash as himself, and like Superman as Super Sonic). On top of all that, he is a cool, approachable and friendly character. Sonic is a good friend to Chris in Sonic X and Tails (who is basically a furry kid) in everything else Sonic. What kid wouldn't want Sonic as a friend? Auflodern is right....

The day time levels of Unleashed weren't even fun. I don't care for levels solely based off trial and error. I think the adventure element should be involved. Unleashed's day time levels don't include this. I wouldn't call this proper execution or exploration. Now if you talk about the Adventure series, that's another story.

But I can't blame Sega for trying. They tried to make the werehog include these factors, but to me it just didn't fit the game and it took the rightful elements of exploration away from the traditional Sonic.

I admit I never played any of the Sonic adventure games. Sonic Unleashed daytime levels did however remind me of the trial and error gameplay of the original 2D Sonics...Then of course a grade for how well you did :)

Generations is fine as it is. But I had rather perferred the plot so that they didn't make the plot so that classic Sonic (and classic cast) is brought FROM the past into the present. Then they go through some of the levels that would most likely still exist (i.e. Green Hill for example), and they notice the colors being drained from a particular portal-the one classic cast came from. Then they go into the portal and venture through levels that don't exist or had events that weren't able to happen in the present (i.e. City Escape, when Sonic was a fugitive and had the crazy truck driver after him).

The game itself looks pretty cool.

But what we must remember (as we saw in Sonic 4), "classic" can't even be considered a term for the game anymore (unless you're talking about the classic looking Sonic which has not changed). Other than this, however, the levels aren't classic because they're remade. They are newly made 2D versions of old levels which are basically unneeded in the 3D age (and since they've already been made in 2D to begin with). So, basically, while the classic levels are an added feature, they aren't classic, and really don't belong. They only make the game's plot more complex and hard to follow. The "modern" mode truly seems like the only mode that matters, because the classics aren't truly classic.

Wait............what do the levels being considered classic or not have to do with my post? I wasn't talking about the levels, I was talking about the plot/level arrangement and the classic characters.

Well, I just don't see how there can be a cohesive logical plot when you shift from a classic level (which really isn't classic) to a modern one. But I guess we'll have to see how this plays out. However, I mostly brought it up to add to the fact, not to respond to yours.

If you researched the plot any for Generations it would make sense. The basic skeleton of it is that there was an unknown force that caused a space-time ripple wherein neo Sonic and classic Sonic are in the same dimension, and due to that the worlds are being destroyed in some way, so they mutually work to stop it.

No offense, but the plot sounds not only horribly cliche, but lame. I wish for a plot more engaging and original... one that offers something brand new.

Though I must admit I can't wait to see a 3D version of Chemical Plant... love that level.

    Yeah, so would I.

But it'd need more than GreenHill Zone.

Perhaps also it should have Hydrocity or Casino Zone
