    Political Discussions Empty Political Discussions

Post by Plix November 13th 2009, 12:08 am

In my short duration of absence, apparently I missed a few talks on government and politics.

Looking at them now, I'm not at all sorry, except for the laughing I missed out on.

Please, people...if you're going to attempt to talk about anything, DO YOUR RESEARCH. Do you know why talk radio exists? Or political television? To sway you to the left or the right. Hardly ANYTHING you see on TV and even less of what you hear on talk radio should be taken at face value.

To combat this close minded, seeming Obama hating ideology, here are a few sites that debunk certain rumors you may hear. *

    http://www.factcheck.org/
    http://www.snopes.com/
    http://www.politifact.com/

*Not saying all of these sites will always be 100% unbiased and perfect, but they are very reliable.

The internet is a huge place, with many unreliable places.

As a person who has been in many political flame wars, merely saying something off talk radio or Fox News won't cut it for most people. I may be a conservative, but I don't believe every word I hear when some random guy said it. I listen to them, but I just want to know the source of the information.

On the other side of the coin, I personally know people who have selective hearing. In other words, they hear what they want to hear, and if something is said about someone they don't like in politics, they will eat it up whether true or not. This is just precautionary.

Yes, I've been there before. I used to be that way with politics, movies, and computers.

However, I still know some people my age that haven't grown up one bit, and still hold a very bias viewpoint.

While politically, I'm still a strict conservative.

I don't mean to bring up facts, but I am starting to get mad at these "seemingly" probable facts:

    • People voted for Barak Obama because he is black.

    • If you didn't vote/support Obama, you are accused of being racist.

    • Obama was voted for being young

    • Obama was voted for being democratic.

    • McCain was bashed for being old.

    • McCain was bashed for being thought to be another Bush.

    ---------

Now, this is mostly speculation, but if you ask people on the street you may find these true.

    ----

I didn't know where else to put this.

EDIT: What Im meant to say is, please don't accuse people of being racist just because they don't support Obama.

I like good stuff. And Obama says a lot of good and nice stuff. Go Obama! And here in Sweden I like Socialdemokraterna. They like good and nice stuff too. :) And with good and nice stuff I mean something like "everybody happy!" because that's what everyone wants, right?

An no, not everybody wants happiness. I don't want happiness. I want assurance that I'm safe within my home, that I have a good education, and that the government leaves me be as long as I follow the law and pay taxes.

You can let the government take advantage of you, or you can do something for yourself. I'll pick the independent option.

But that is a part of happines! ;) Kind of...

But yeah, I know. My thoughts aren't that intricated (does this word fit here?). But I'm so young and I can't understand everything and so on. So I like the nice and friendly solutions which makes the world a better place. ;) So money for everyone! It may be unfair sometimes, but it's better than the opposite consequences I think.

This may sound contradictory, but being fair all the time leads to satisfying greed. Problem is, greed cannot be satisfied.

Socialism looks great on paper (like all governments), but the outcome is actually scary. The politicians will fool you into believing that you still have control over your country, but the government is only making their wallets larger by making you want to submit to the government.

    It's propaganda, not happiness.

Nah, I don't agree. Everything went so well before, just a bit lazy people with money they don't deserve here and there. But now when there's a new government, all they do is making people sad. :( Now when did they do something someone actually like? Never! So it's better with the happy socialism. Okay, the government may get some more power, but I haven't actually met someone in Sweden that has thought about that before. I think that's no problem. If you lived in Sweden and got to try it you may had liked it. ;)

    I would never like it.

In the end, we are flawed. Our natures turn us into monsters. Politicians in such a government as Sweden would have me on the edge. I would never trust them with my money or my family's health. The Global Warming scam only proves that they just want your money.

They don't care about your happiness. Politicians worldwide normally don't, so I have no reason to believe Scandinavia is exceptional.

I'm pointing out that it puts death into the equation.

I'm alive now! ;) But I think it's pretty obvious that everyone wants a happy life. But it's maby hard for us to understand each other at that part. We maybe see the word with different views. :)

Just Linus here for example, "japp". That's the answer I got when I asked him if he wants to live a happy life. And it means "yes" in english. ;) Hehe, I know, it's pretty unnecessary to use him, but he just showed up here... :P

I am not saying you should not live a happy life.

I am saying that we must at least question ourselves and everything outside of ourselves before we go after such things our life goal.

Yesterday, when I walk to my school, I saw things that I never saw before, the mascarade cars, agents, guns, really dangerous...I don't know who arrive senator? president? king? no, government worker travel in assist of agents, ambulances and police....is he rich enough to hire this team? No. You pay & I pay, we all pay for it our money for nothing. We can't control the taxes, we live in poor they catch the assassin and have fun. Government is like a big corporation, they stole money to make profits, thinking about new profits. Making profits agents protect them, police see no evil and hear no evil... am i alone, who sees the problem? I don't think so but, there's no one who wants to scream... we become prisoners in our own homes... pay and die, nothing more. who stole us? who? they don't care about our problems. They look into our life and make it worse. We have no chance to feel so real, we are prisioners, we are slaves. They have money, they have power, they control us...

How sad that this thread died. I suppose I should try to prod the discussion here into waking back up from its long slumber. If it doesn't work in a week's time from now, I think I'll de-sticky it and let it drift down through the posts until it's out of sight and out of mind.

Plix, you made this thread, and I'm certain you have contempt for me. I'll admit I'm not inclined to fondness toward you, either. Whaddya say to directing that through political debate here? Better than any alternative I can think of, that's for sure.

Anyone else is free to discuss here as well, natch.

Aye, that as well. I called you out specifically in part because you made the thread and it'd be reasonable to assume you still hold some interest in politics. Hopefully some less politically inclined members will see this and join in, else perhaps try to put forth more quality and quantity in content when possible, whether about politics or not.

I'll be honest: I don't keep up with it. I can't even vote right now even though I'm 18, due to some governmental dickery I completely fail to understand. If I can manage to pull it off before the election's all said and done, I'll look over the important parts before voting; i.e., policies, how stupid the candidates up for each office I can vote for are, etc. If not, I'll just look at the layout of the political floor after it's all decided like I always do and would still do even if I can manage to vote, going over the basics of every office holder's policies and such quickly so I can get a grasp of how screwed the country is.

But all the debates, all the signs and commercials and so on, I completely ignore it as best I can. They're leaders, not Ms. America. Most of them don't have the personality to be Ms. America anyway, even neglecting the fact that they look like sacks full of bugs. It's not like I could very well stand to watch them whore themselves out on TV very much if I even wanted to.
