    Phantasy Star: Ragol's Future

    Historical Note

The future of the people of Pioneer 2, as well as Ragol and Coral, comes at a heavy price. Since the early 3000’s, war has devastated Coral, to the point where damage to the environment and the eco-system has become irreversible. War had dragged on for over fifty long years…
In 3060, fifty-seven years after the war had started, the damage to Coral had reached the point where life was to become life-lessness. The initial surface had become a barren wasteland, radioactivity was at an all-time high. Civilization as they knew it… was ready to end. Living in bio-spheres, the civilian population had realized… the end was near. Coral was nearly destroyed in past conflicts, but recovered; but now, she orbits the Corallian Star, in the brink of destruction, un-recoverable. It was then; the Alliance of Nations, the group of the ten most powerful nations of Coral, banded together, to plan for the mass exodus of Coral to another inhabitable planet. Groups of smaller nations called it a failed plan at the start, it would never survive, but the Alliance of Nations persevered. The search for a new world was about to begin, and the intricate plan called the Pioneer project was about to begin. The initial project… to build an intergalactic space vessel with the power to move faster than light, to transport colonists to their new home.
In 3061, the satellite probes were launched. Seventy probes were launched, but only nineteen left the atmosphere. The remaining was destroyed by terrorists, insisting that when a planet dies, the population dies with. Purists have argued, only the best of the races are to go. Coral: populated by four races; Humans, Newmans, CASTS, and Beasts, were ready to squabble amongst themselves. The Government made it clear, everyone had the right of transport. The actions of the Government formed a secret fundamentalist group… the Illuminus, in an attempt to defy the Government.
In 3068, a signal returns to Coral, which was much closer to destruction, of a planet in the Ragol System. It was the first planet to be discovered, contact with all the other probes was lost. The Alliance of Nations then confirmed… that Ragol is to be the new home. Construction of the first of many interstellar transports, Pioneer 1, was to begin immediately. She is to carry researchers and prepare Ragol for colonization. Eight years later, she launched, with a full compliment of thirty-five thousand, under the command of Captain Mark Dallgun, with Commander Heathcliff Flowen as his first officer. Almost immediately, construction of the second starship, to be called Pioneer 2 begins.
In 3077, one year after the launch, the first wave reaches Ragol, and almost immediately, colonization begins. The Central Dome has already been constructed to act as headquarters for the budding colony, growing larger and larger by the day. Commander Rico Tyrell, daughter of the famous Governor-General Colin Tyrell, is assigned Commanding Officer of the Surface Exploratory Team, charged with the survival planning and the terraforming opportunities.
As the Alliance of Nations base of power on Coral begins to shift and weaken rapidly, Commander Heathcliff Flowen disappears and is pronounced dead in 3082, just after the signal was sent from Ragol to Coral to send the second colony ship. Many had believed that he was killed by a being unknown to them, but in secret, he had become a living experiment later to be known as Olga Flow, the final insane experiment of Doctor Lyle Osto. The Seabed Facility had been completely sealed off. Unknowing to Pioneer 2 that Hell was waiting for them at Ragol.
In 3083, Pioneer 2 was launched and sent to Ragol, being sent to the Hell created by Doctor Osto. The ship arrived the following year, and as radio contact was created, a massive explosion took place and destroyed the colony. Thirty-five thousand people… perished in an instant. G.G. Tyrell them immediately ordered an investigation to take place… an investigation that will never be completed. Everything was completely destroyed, there was nothing remaining of the budding colony. The local wildlife became dangerously violent, mutations appeared within the caves, and in the mines, machines went out of control, attacking anything… and everything at will. Some sort of ruins was found in the deepest part of the planet, and an evil escaped from it. Teams after teams of Hunters went after it, and after many months, it was finally subdued, but there was nothing to explain what had happened.
In 3085, the true secret of Doctor Osto’s experiment was revealed, and the investigation was halted indefinitely. The Science Directory onboard Pioneer 2 had revealed that Flowen had become Olga Flow, and that Ragol may not be the suitable planet that was dreamed for. Launch of Pioneer 3 was halted for the next twenty five years. Colonization of the planet was also halted. In the same year, Pioneer 2 had nearly collided with a meteor that was mysteriously redirected toward the planet. Although there was not much explanation as to how it got there, a huge impact crater was left in wake of the collision. Investigation on the crater was never completed.
An inquiry was then taken place, and in 3090, Tyrell and Deputy Director Cale Kane was deemed guilty of deliberately hiding the truth from the people, that the secrets of Ragol was hushed up, everyone involved had to sign non-disclosure agreements, and that the home planet was never told the truth. Tyrell was then dismissed from office, to be replaced by Dol Grisen.
Dol Grisen ruled with a Photonic Fist. In 3097, secretly under his orders, the OPSS incident was sparked, the destruction of all androids that were onboard Pioneer 2 as well as Ragol. Civil War nearly erupted, and Dol Grisen was forced to stop the incursion at once. Androids were the immediately reclassified as Humanoids, and were given more rights than they had before.
In 3105, a new product was discovered on Ragol… the GERM. This product allowed for revolutionary weapon and item storage, but it also had it’s ill side-effects. Anyone exposed to the GERM was killed. Because of the GERM, civil war erupted between two sides. It had only ended; however, when the technology was destroyed.
    In 3107…
