Because he witnessed his best friend, only friend, and basically sister figure suffer a disease, then saw her shot before his eyes while he could do nothing, was brainwashed to believe she wanted revenge, was then imprisoned for 50 years, was then commanded to manipulate someone into believing he'd get ultimate power, when in reality he'd be crashing a space station into a planet, killing billions and himself, only later learning his friend's true request, and then having to risk his life to undo all the damage he did and save the world. Is that it?
