I believe that it is quite possible that there could be other living organisms within the universe, though I don't fully believe in the numerous theories about them with the limited amount of evidence that aliens could exsist.

In the light of creationism, people believe that humans are the dominant race in existence. Therefore, these are no other life forms besides on the earth.
In the big bang theory, they believe that chemicals and gases produced planets. Since humans are believed by scientists to be made from gases, it would also explain other life forms from different species. Recently, astronomers have seen planets just like earth with a proper atmosphere and orbit to sustain life. People may say that the same gases that created our planet would also create those planets. However, since there is no life on those planets, it wouldn't make sense for only ours.
It becomes a whole different argument from there.

Alien life almost certainly exists. Whether or not they can reach us is dependent upon whether or not the technology to travel such long distances is in their grasp. Such technology may already be within our reach, what with the fact that a matter-antimatter combustion changes every bit of matter/antimatter put into it into energy. (As a comparison, hydrocarbon combustion, the most efficient power source known to man, aside from matter-antimatter combustion, releases about 2% energy at its very best.) There's also no way of telling how widespread alien life is. It could be all around us, or there could be naught other than us in the entire galactic cluster.

I don't see why anyone would say that life on planets beyond our own being primitive is a given. Just give life liquid water, and over a few billion years, (Life on Earth has been around for 3.5 billion years, and there's no proof that life can't evolve faster than it has here because we haven't seen life outside of Earth to begin with. Under different basic chemical makeups, which is entirely possible for all the jack we know about life on the grand scale, life could evolve at greatly varying rates.) you'd be amazed at the things it can make. Not to mention all the forms of non-carbon-based life or even carbon-based life that could very possibly exist without water. Granted, more primitive life forms would be more common, and most primitive life forms most common, but among them will almost surely live beings of advancement at or even well past our own, both morphologically and technologically.
