My explanation would be, maybe it's a prequel to 3 in which Dante is even younger. It could also be a sequel to 2, which would explain Dante's more serious attitude, but wouldn't explain his sudden youngness.
Either way, I don't really care. The Devil May Cry series has always had a retarded story anyway. I'm sure the gameplay will be just fine.

Yeah. I just figured that out in a news article. If it's a reboot, that pretty much explains the hair. It's a different Dante (or alternate universe I guess). Whatev. I'm sure it'll still be fun to play.
