    music genres

Post by Plix on July 1st 2012, 12:22 am

This thread is kind of multi layered. First question, what do you listen to?

Second question, do you believe that music is over categorized?

If I tried to list everything I listen to, it'd be very long... but mostly Metal (Death & Black mostly) or Hard Rock.

And no, I don't think so.

Music shouldn't be categorized, that lays way for prejudice and narrow-mindedness.

Much like classifying people into races. The lines do in fact blur, if we are to say there are lines at all.

I don't have the slightest idea what genre most of my favorite music belongs to.

If I were to pick a "genre," I'd say grunge.

Well I love classic house music, Rock and Roll, and video game music. xP And yes, I truly think that music is over categorize. Why split a certain type of music into multiple other types? It just confuses the heck out of me, because I love rock and roll. And according to different categories I love classic rock, heavy metal, punk rock, grunge, and indie rock. When it comes down to that, I just say I love Rock n Roll. :V

I listen to Rock, Hip Hop, Jazz, Classical,Folk and whatever you call the main genre of electronic music.

But Yeah, music is over categorized. Alot of genres are really just marketing buzz words..if a subgenre is differentiated from the main genre by how the artist/band dresses....then that subgenre is probably a marketing buzzword...or just a older sub genre rebranded for the "modern" audience....

Don't worry, not everyone will hate you if you said that.

Drum and Bass is sweet. Dubstep is just DnB gone wrong if you ask me.
