Back when I was a human, we asked a girl out by professing ourselves her most ardent admirer. And getting close to her usually involved showing nigh-legendary skill with some manner of bladed weapon and becoming a special agent for her father so you'd be allowed anywhere near her in normal circumstances. Then the date was coming by at the right time, when her father needed her escorted elsewhere, and taking the job of a long, chatty walk out of her father's castle, roundabout the hinterland farms, and down a path through the little villages, maybe even through a town or two. ... Well, that's how it worked with the "noble" sorts, at least; the peasants just stayed in their villages and latched onto the ones they could reach that vaguely struck their fancy, not very passionate loves, -- shy of coincidence -- but enough to breed and enjoy. And after a few generations, they were usually inbred; the villages were small, after all. At least I got to have my fun with the nobility as a great warrior. ... 'Fore I died.
