Sonic and the Mystery of the Icy Black Hand of Doom

Sonic and his gang were visiting prison. Their buddy, Shadow, had recently been busted up for what they called a "drug deal". Word on the streets was that there was a load of this new drug going around, said to have the power to make anyone's deepest and darkest dreams come alive. They called it amphetamine. Here in the ghettos of Mobius, it's more commonly known as "speed".

What Sonic didn't understand is what Shadow had to do with anything. Shadow, as cold as he may appear to be on the outside, was kind at heart. Sonic knew that he would never mess with mind altering drugs such as these, much less other criminal dealings. This was definitely not the same Shadow he knew and hung out with.

But alas, Shadow was locked up with the other street fugitives, awaiting judgment. Sonic just had to go see him before the trail to find what was up. The pieces just didn't fit. Something was fishy with this story.

And so, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy headed on their way. What was in store for them, however, they would never expect...

What will Sonic and the gang do?
A. Head directly to the prison visitor center.
B. Stop by at Tails's workshop.
C. Visit the slums where Shadow was arrested.
D. ..."Obtain" some speed and put it into a bag.

Sonic wasn't quite sure what to make of this whole mess. Could this just be another one of his arch-nemesis's lures? Or perhaps it was just a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Either way, Sonic had to get to the bottom of this. And in this city, you can't get any lower than the slums.

Shadow and his prison could wait. There was something far more sinister behind this.
Sonic let Knuckles take the lead. His tough exterior might serve useful in situations like this.

And so, Knuckles led his group through the rotten streets. He shivered as the passed the legions of spineless hedgehogs, rolled up into balls and clawing for money. How could Shadow have stood it here? Shadow wasn't the kind of guy who was willing to deal with his inferiors.

It was getting dark.
Knuckles had been prowling the streets for almost two hours. He had stopped at every suspicious alleyway to ask about speed dealings. And at every corner, the same answer: go see a man named Shadow. The strange thing was, no one knew how to contact him. No one knew where he was. No one knew what he even looked like. They were only told to find Shadow. They seemed almost like... zombies, even. Brainwashed to only know the name and nothing else.

The group came to the riverbank. The "river," if you could even call it that, was pitch black with disease and fungus. Sitting to the side was an old man, fishing.

A. There's nothing to be found here. Go see Shadow now.
B. Ask the old man about Shadow.
C. Beat the old man up.
D. It's getting too late. Head back home and rest.
