If you would categorize each character's fighting style...

What would it be?

Sonic - Capoeira
The way he spins and does breakdance moves every time. This is the closest fighting style resembling Sonic's fighting style (excluding the homing attacks of course)

Knuckles - American Boxing
I WAS gonna say Muey Tai, but Knuckles barely does kicks. Also his punches are more powerful then they are fast.

Shadow - Karate
This is judging from Sonic Battle because other games he tends to kinda fight like Sonic. I see him using chops and roundhouse kicks. Also his Chaos Attacks still kinda resemble attacks like an Elbow Slam.

Tails - Ballet? Breakdancing?!
I have no idea, his most famous attacks are spinning around, but you see him spin on his hands a little while spinning in Sonic Adventure DX. Looks like he mixes Ballet with Breakdancing to attack. Now I know they're not actual fighting styles, but attacking with a Tu Tu is allot more resembling Tails' use of his tails then someone spinning around doing Roundhouse kicks.

There are more characters but these are examples. Of course, some people know more fighting styles so maybe they know better resembling fighting styles to categorize it to the characters.

I disagree about Shadow in the reference to Karate. Shadow the hedgehog the game disproves any possibilty of him being a dedicated practice of Karate.

Well, it wouldn't be impossible for Shadow to know it. Gerald I'm sure wanted him highly intelligent and a worthy fighter in case the situation required it.
Rouge I think is kickboxing, but I don't know.
Tails can also be called a weapons specialist, right?

Weapon specialist. Hmmm, that DOES make more sense.

No, I'm sure he would know it, I'm saying based on that assumption he cares nothing of the principles of Karate.

Zem, the weapon specialist was originally directed at Tails because of his inventions.

I'd have to say that Shadow addapts his fighting style to the situation at hand, while mixing in a little Chaos.

Oh, and amy would have to be Boxersize. She has those boxing gloves and that hip move in Sonic battle and says she's fighting as part of her "weight loss program"

I don't know many fighting styles honestly.

Sonic: Gymnastics and Capoeira
He's just constantly in motion, but still has a surprising amount of accuracy for a guy who's literally flinging himself headfirst at his target.

Tails - Ballet and Savate
Most of his attacks simply involve spinning like a ballerina, the closest thing to applying attacks to that would be Savate, a French kickboxing style.

Knuckles: Western Boxing
He only punches, simple enough.

Rouge: Taekwondo
She only kicks, simple enough.

Shadow:
(Sonic Battle): Karate
The only one with an even remotely distinguishable martial art. His open hand chop, backhand punch, and back spinning kick are definitely Karate, but it's still very limited and nothing worth bragging about, I play fighting games for Jin Kazama's sake.

There is no real life martial art that can defy physics.

Silver: Banzai
Relying almost exclusively on long-range attacks, he had no idea how to fight up close. In his only hand-to-hand scene, he basically attempts a Falcon Punch.

Espio: Ninjutsu
He's a ninja.

Nack and E-102 Gamma: Marksmanship
Unlike the rest of the E-Series, they actually aim and fire one shot per target.

I would love to see Tails perform a Brak-dancing style of fighting. But then he would be Gangsta. Which Tails is not.

knuckles- mixed martial arts as he punches kicks and grabs to fight and he is said to be a master in many martial arts

shadow-just basic hand to hand like regular kicks and a punch mostly instinct

Shadow - dirty fighting. Using anything to bring the opponent down. No such thing as a fair fight.
