I understand the Maria thing, because that was the person he was closest to and he misses her alone so she is on his mind hence why he refers to her a lot but the true power was a bit over the top lol

Take 2 player mode for example:
Character select: "I must have...REVENGE!!!" (or something like that)
opening Phrases: "Now you will witness the ultimate power"
Every time you die: " Maria!!!"
I can't even count how many times he's said "Revenge" "Maria" or "Ultimate Lifeform/power" in the main story. Sure, they were important to the story, but I feel they were a tad bit overused...

I don't. Character slect seemed obvious and justified. Same for the opening phrases. The death thing is probably all I would've changed. It sets a tone for what Shadow was about in that game. It's the game where he was introduced and where his story first took off. All of that seemed said at the recommended amount in order to get the point across. Maybe it seems like more because you play it over often. I don't know.

Maria was used maybe 3-4+ times if you didn't die(which is a BIT much)
Ultimate was used maybe 3-4+ times counting multiplayer.
And True Power was used like 2-3 times maybe.
I don't know, but I think Hedgehog and Eggman were much more overused in the game.

Don't die if you don't want to hear Maria's name being screamed in your speakers. But honestly, I never had a problem with him talking in any stage, whether one player or two. Seriously, if he ever said ANYTHING when I was playing with him in SA2B, it was usually just a "hup!" type noise when he jumped. And even then, not all the time. And I've played with him a lot...rank A on all his missions for every stage.
Oh, and he doesn't always say "Maria" when he dies. He only says "Maria" if he dies from taking a hit with no rings. If you die from falling into a void, he just makes an UGH! noise.
