When we speak about Archie Sonic comics today, the names that come to mind most are Ian Flynn, Tracy Yardley and Patrick Spaziante. Yardley, in particular, pays homage to the days of yesteryear by signing his name with an exclamation point, the calling card of one of the first artists on the Archie series, Scott Shaw–the subject of this story.
Most followers of the comic today have long forgotten Shaw’s contribution to the series–one in a long line of accomplishments the 47 year old has in comics, animation, and his current website OddballComics.com–but old veterans can now own a piece of that special Sonic history. On EBay today is a near mint condition copy of Sonic the Hedgehog #0. It contains Shaw’s signature on the front cover, exclamation point and all. Owning a piece of what was should have you exclaiming in joy, too–bidding starts at just $65 plus shipping, with a “Buy it Now” option for $85.
The seller got Shaw’s signature (say that three times fast) at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. It appears Ken Penders wasn’t the only veteran representation of Archie’s Sonic comics from the 90s. Like Penders, Shaw was there promoting his independent work, which includes Oddball Comics.
