I remember when I first played this game, it was during the summer of 1996 when I was on vacation with some relatives. My uncle had a Genesis, and one day, we went to the video store, and this game caught my eye. I don't remember what made me wanting to rent it, but I did. And I remember enjoying it alot. As the months went on, I forgot all about the game, and don't recall remembering the name of it until the year 2000, when I bought it used at Funcoland (now known as GameStop). This game isn't exactly on par with say Lifeforce or R-Type, but it's an interesting shooter nonetheless. The player gets to pick from 4 biological looking starfighters or something. I always pick that thing that looks like a Stingray. The enemies in this game are very strange. Some are also rather scary. Speaking of scary, I need to mention the music in this game. It's really brooding and moody. Seriously, this music is so spine tingling and bone-chiulling. It fits in with the atmosphere of the game perfectly. It's a good thing I never played this game when I was 7 or younger, because this music probably would've given me nightmares. The music from the title screen and the first level is especially scary. I don't think this game was exactly a huge commercial success, but it looks like it's been well-received. Sega seems to still embrace it. They put it on the Wii Virtual Console, and on their game service:PlaySEGA. Fun little fact:The japanese version is called "Crying - Asia Seimei Sensou", which translates to english as "Crying - Biological War". That's an unusual title. And the title screen and box artwork for this version gave me chills a little too:
Boy, never thought I'd find a shooter scary!
