Nintendo kicked off the motion control craze, but Microsoft is looking to take things to the next level. The motion-sensing camera controller captured gamer (and developer) imaginations when it was unveiled at the E3 convention and has won the heart of the skeptical press. Time Magazine even went so far as to name the device one of the 50 best inventions of the year.
Sony had is own buzz with its motion control wand, but Natal’s demos – letting you talk and interact with characters on screen and drive a car just by pantomiming a steering wheel -- made the device stand out. Microsoft’s already talking about non-gaming applications for the device, such as using hand waves and vocal commands to change channels on your TV, meaning we’ll probably be talking even more about Natal (or whatever they end up calling it) in 2010.
