I played the game as when the day the demo was up at gamestop a while back.
I can truly say that it isn't a pick up and play sort of thing. For the people that have trouble figuring out Guitar Hero/Rock Band in the beginning will put a shotgun in their mouth before they "get it." It took two songs for me to understand how to play the game, but once I did, I was immediately having fun. Even on an easy difficulty, I really liked what I played, and wanted more.
However... I'm not going to go out and spend 120 dollars on another music game, especially one put out by Activision. This is a single player, or two with a guitar, experience. That is contradictory for how I use Rock Band; as a game that four people that aren't really gamers can enjoy and have a good time with. The party atmosphere doesn't really translate to DJ Hero.
One more thing,
I bought DJ Hero a decade ago when it was called Beatmania.
