Super Sonic is Ripped

I was looking at the Super Sonic sprites in Sonic 2 today, using the normal blue palette. Studying them close-up, I noticed something that I never have before.

Super Sonic is ripped! As in, he's got the physique of a body builder!



This isn't the case in S3&K, or any other subsequent game that I know of.

I wonder why Sega abandoned this idea. Who else thinks it would be cool if Super Sonic was portrayed as a muscular superhero in the next Sonic game?

And he still has the legs of a twig.

It would be kinda creepy to see come back, but it would help make his strength more realistic, I guess.
