This story is about a 17-year-old girl who lives in a city where everyone was ether a hedgehog or a cat. Problem was, she was nether. She, like both her parents, is an echidna. She never knew what she was and she has never seen anyone look like her before. This girl had cats in her family but she doesn't resemble ether of them. At school, she gets teased because of her dreadlocks and feared because of her 3 sharp points on both sets of knuckles which earned her the nickname "Knuckles" (which she hated more than her real name). Her eyes were arched differently than a hedgehog or a cat so kids often wonder if she was happy or mad. She doesn't have any friends because most kids feared her. When she get angry, she'd resort to punching them with her fists which freaks kids out. There was one kid, however, who wanted to know her more. He was an 8-year-old hedgehog that was also teased but for preforming witchcraft. He believed in magic and witchery and he was also psychic. They talked and a few days later, became best friends.
Fast forward to the good stuff...
The girl and her family (and friend) were leaving to go on vacation. Unfortunately, their plane died on the way there and they crashed on a floating island. As her family settled in finding ways to survive; the girl, her friend and her cousin were trying to get accustomed to their new "home". On their journey, they find a huge, green, glowing emerald in the middle of the forest. This excited the girl as she visioned a new necklace. As she picked up the emerald from it's post, the whole island began to shake. She didn't want to know what would happen if she held on to the emerald any longer so she gently put it back on it's post. When the shaking stopped, the kids looked up and saw a red echidna with a disapproving look on his face. While the kids were startled, the girl saw that his face quickly changed when he locked eyes with her.
