Indeed. Like I said before, Tikal is not alive (not in the conventional sense, and, as SRZ said, not in the same sense as the other characters). But her spirit and her wisdom still exist, and she is still a viable character, and she is still able to think and reason like all the other characters, even after she died.

Spirit balls don't even fit in with the normal idea of the dead. Ghosts of various forms are more proper. A spirit ball doesn't do that.

That's exactly my point. Tikal is a Spirit because she's represented by a glowy terracotta ball of light.

And they easily can have scary ghosts and have.

If Tikal was a ghost, she would have a clearly defined form, but she would be ethereal.
