Chip over Tails?

I know this could be a controversial topic, so lets keep things civilized as possible, without resorting to fanboyism and flaming.


Tails has been Sonic's side kick for over 15 years, ever since Sonic 2 the two have been best friends and in-separable. But now we see Sonic with a new sidekick, Chip.

Tails currently has a massive fan base, and millions of loyal followers, but lately tails has actually become more of a sonic cling-on, who's been stuck with the role of sad admirer, constantly saying things like "ssssonic" or "I can do this on my own" Really, he's been going nowhere since Sonic Adventure.


Now comes Chip. A brand new character introduced into the series. Some of you may not even know who chip even is yet. At first many saw chip, and though "irritating squeaky voice ditz". Myself included unfortunately. But with the release of Sonic Unleashed has come some interesting revelations.

Chip has a good voice and is not annoying (To Some..).

Sonic team have really started to build a real relationship between the 2 now.

The reception to this has been surprisingly warm. People have been praising night of the werehog saying sega should do this every year, or create a mini series. The omake again is a big success with people highlighting the great chemistry between chip and sonic.

Really, Chip's reception has been great, so it leads me to question. Is the chemistry better Sonic and Chip. Will he become a permanent fixture on Sonic's lifespan. Could this mean a whole new era for sonic, just as Sonic Adventure spelled new era.?

Chip is kinda... in hybernation...
But either way, Sonic and Chip's friendship was pretty nice, and technically it works better then Sonic and Tails, but there's a reason for that.

You know how Batman first had D*** Grayson as Robin and now he has Tim Drake?
It's kinda like that. Tails has become more independent. Instead of a "Sidekick" he's now more as a "Helper" while he does his own things.
But then again, you could actually compare Chip to Jason Todd more because... well... you know...

First off: Want some chocolate?
Second: I like Chip, but I'd rather Tails stay the sidekick. If Sega wants to bring about the Prophecy of Gaia, then he can return. But until then, he needs his rest.

I see this going either way, to be honest here.

1) Either Sonic Team could let the friendship between Sonic and Chip continue, as like you said, the fan reception to this frienship has been very warm. You could look at it this way. If they make it out to be that Chip is not as smart as Sonic, and that Chip is more like the bumbler type of sidekick, then I see this working out.

However, this has to come on one condition. Sonic Team better not dare to kick Tails to the curb as a result of that. I don't want Tails to be completely fogotten and shoved further back into the background, because like I talked about it in some Tails threads, SEGA is getting really lazy and weak with the handling of Tails in general and his overall character development. If Sonic Team allows Tails to branch out on his own and keep getting more independent, while standing out and getting noticed by the fans, then this will work out great.

Or 2) Sonic Team can simply keep the duo as Sonic and Tails and let Chip just be a one-hit wonder. *shrugs*

Why would Sonic Team bring Chip back? Think about it.

My opinion? I don't believe Sonic Team should bring back Chip. I personally don't want them to bring back Chip, but I do see what can happen if they do bring him back. Why would Sonic Team bring Chip back? Simple. Because of his popularity and money.

Look, lots of people find him a good change of pace of a character compared to others. But I don't think his "popularity" is anything to bring him back. Either way I think Sonic Team already learned after bringing Shadow back.

No, change of pace as in he's there to humor the audience rather then for example:

That was part of the joke. Controversy is like the most used humor these days. Technically I'm parodying the humor people have today. If there was humor I like, it would be the trope destroying humore, like Emperor's New Groove. Instead we now have humor that tries to be as controversal as ever, like how people think Batman and Robin are gay, Spiderman with the American flag, etc.

No, it's just me and code. We ourselves are serious, other, more relaxed, people will take jokes more lightly. We don't, is all.

I like Tails more than Chip. Tails is old-school and more original.

I choose Chip over Tails

I would agree.Chip is a little better than tails.
and I wouldn't mind chip being sonic's sidekick because tails seems better on his own. :Mr. Green:
