In more European Fans Have it Made news, we learned today the video game centric French publisher Pix’n Love Publishing will begin selling The History of Sonic next year in glossy hardcover.
The compilation was made with direct partnership of Sega Japan, according to today’s announcement. That means we will finally have an official, complete published record of the hedgehog’s history. It will cover 300 pages and include numerous original artworks of old and new, additional new interviews, and coverage of everything from the original 1991 Sonic up to Sonic Generations.
The good news is that it’s pretty cheap. Pix’N Love is asking for just €30 for the special collector’s edition, which is just about $40. You can pre-order now at their website, where you can also take a peek inside some of the pages. Our friends at French website Planete Sonic tell us they do ship internationally, though it appears they only take Euros–so using Paypal may be the best bet there for conversion purposes. The bad news is that, for now, it’s only available to pre-order in French. That said, it does look like Pix’n Love has a more limited service set up in the UK, so an English language version isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility. We’ll let you know if that surfaces. Nevertheless, this version will be released in January. Thanks to @AggieCEO as well for tipping us on Twitter.
Here is an English translation of book description, also courtesy of Metal-Mighty from Planete-Sonic.com:

One of a kind official 300 pages book in colors realized in partnership with SEGA Japan, it relates the adventures of one of the most appreciated characters in all the video-games story. Born in 1991 with ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ on Mega Drive, the blue hedgehog has immediately been adopted by millions of players and has been propeled in a spark to the ‘Superstar’ rank.
June 23rd, sooner this year, SEGA’s blue mascot celebrated it’s 20 years. 20 years of history, 20 years of glory, during which Sonic excited every player whom tried vainly to tame him! 20 years of joy and pleasure, but with technological innovations and creativity as well.
‘The Story of Sonic’ describes this fifth of a century from it’s early begginings on Mega Drive to his Aniversary game – Sonic Generations – which is a really vibrating tribute. Through some anecdotes, interviews, artworks, and never-seen-before artworks, this book will unveil a hidden face of the hedgehog and will open the doors of his uncommon universe and boundless imagination.

When will “The Story of Sonic” be sent?
Pre-orders are cool, will you say. But what about the shipping? Will we have a chance to get our book beneath our christmas tree? We are sure about one thing: we are doing everything to make it happen! In fact, the book is totally finished: redaction, the layout and all. All we need is the final approbation from SEGA Japan! Because it is a licensed product, every detail is verified by the company’s specialists: verification of the texts, the pictures, etc. Nothing unusual as you can see. But don’t worry: their work has already well started and we are waiting for the approval in the upcoming weeks. And if we couldn’t make it in time for Christmas, here is a nice occasion to start a great 2012 year!
We have a very important and very welcome update to the story we brought to you yesterday. Representatives of Pix’N Love Publishing confirmed to TSSZ today that the Sonic History book will be published in English, and be available for pre-order in a little while.
“Don’t worry guys, the English translation will be released too! I know it for a fact, since I translated it…” read a comment on our original story that indeed was traced back to the publisher.
It also helped that a 2nd Pix’N Love rep from the UK corroborated on the same story.
“This book will be avilable to US customer via our UK / English language site,” read the remark. “The pre order just will not be up for a few weeks yet for the English version.”
So, hang tight, English speakers–your opportunity will come to own this first comprehensive published record of Sonic history. We will let you know once those pre-orders begin.

Re: Sonic History Book
So 300 pages of Sonic history, and international shipping, eh? Soooooo America will be getting this too then...seems to me like some sort of "make-up" gift for us Americans not getting the CE of SG. Whatever, I'm probably wrong, but hey.

Re: Sonic History Book
Exactly, which is why they are starting to become my least favorite game developing company. God now I think even Activision is better than SEGA at this point, even though they're total money whores.Tech Man 753 wrote:SEGA loves Europe too much.SonicFan001 wrote:

Re: Sonic History Book
So they are a bad company for trying to give Europe, the continent video game companies constantly treat as shit, good stuff?

I'm not even going to buy it, in fact. Better things to waste my money on, like Skyrim DLC.Supersonic84 wrote:So they are a bad company for trying to give Europe, the continent video game companies constantly treat as a third world country, good stuff?

Re: Sonic History Book
Actually, it makes a lot of sense for Europe to get it first, since Europe has more Sonic fans.
However, it's when Japan gets stuff over America that it seems too whacky for words.

Re: Sonic History Book
Which leaves me to say, that I had said a certain time ago, SEGA doesn't really care for NA. That's why I like Activision, America gets everything first when it comes to them. The Freedom Fighter wrote:Actually, it makes a lot of sense for Europe to get it first, since Europe has more Sonic fans.
