But surely, there were other crossover fighters before Smash Bros.

Those are traditional arcade fighters. The gameplay is nothing alike.84 wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King_of_Fighters

They're fighting games, there isn't much variation between them.

Making a fighting game in 3 easy steps:
1: ctrl+A, ctrl+C, ctrl+V.
2: Slightly tweak hitboxes, attack damage boxes, etc.; change variables at random; make new character models if you want to be really fancy. Don't worry about giving them personality or history; nobody will care anyway.
3: Become millionaire off of your skiddied game.
1: ctrl+A, ctrl+C, ctrl+V.

Don't forget storing them on the disk and releasing them as paid DLC.Master Mly Hushimo wrote:Making a fighting game in 3 easy steps:

SEGA's done some of the same kinds of games as Nintendo has. There's most recently Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, kinda like how Nintendo has Mario Kart. They've also done SEGA Superstars Tennis, like Mario did Mario Tennis. Of course, there was also Sonic Shuffle, which was like Mario Party.
What's wrong with Sony making a game (whose title, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, is incredibly long and really doesn't roll off the tongue) similar to Super Smash Bros.? Not only that, they've done some things differently, like mash-ups of games in the stage, (like LittleBigPlanet and Buzz! being put together in one stage, if I remember right), or made different levels of a character's "smash".
