Mly in The Mly Diaries scored 165 in the test based on what I plan for it to be like after the first set of Xar'ygleshc skirmishes. But they said good writing helps a lot and Mly doesn't comprehend the extent of its power in the slightest and unless I change my story plan it never will. I also question why naming your character after yourself adds twenty points but giving it invulnerability adds only two.

I have my own theory about writing characters: for every strength there should also be a weakness. Nobody is all-powerful and/or well-liked by everybody. But it does indeed help to have a character who is grounded in a familiar setting, especially one with which the author is personally familiar.

Well, they did make it clear that even this test isn't really perfect.

    Indeed.
The problem is that it counts points when the character is similar to the creator, which shouldn't be a reason to make a character a Mary Sue per say.
Some writers use parts of their own character into multiple different characters in their story so it would be easier for them to see things in their eyes in their situations.
Even so, the creator him/herself could be quite an original individual himself.
That said, some of the things that's on the test really does show writers-to-be how not to make their characters, or at least use those Mary Sue qualities with caution.
