Lets hope they manage to get it somewhat coherent. As it is now, the Zelda timeline looks more like the government's flow sheet on the new healthcare bill

It's not as complicated as you'd think. When you think about it, there are plenty of logical timeline theories. Nintendo just needs to pick one and make it the official one.

That's interesting.
I just wrote a 3 page timeline out myself a few days ago. Here it is if anyone's interested. I think it's pretty plausible and I considered all loose ends and what not.
The Legend of Zelda Timeline
1. Skyward Sword – Before Skyloft existed, a war enraged between the goddess Hylia and the demon king Demise over the world, seeking the ultimate power of the Triforce – Hylia seeking it for good intentions, Demise seeking it for evil. Hylia eventually sealed away Demise, then created a mortal body for herself in the form of Zelda of Skyloft, so she could continue existing throughout time and stand up to Demise’s minions should they try to revive him. Years later, Demise’s servant Ghirahim revives him but Link, a hero from Skyloft, uses the Master Sword he obtains and kills him before he can conquer the world. During his death, Demise curses Link’s bloodline such that an evil man would forever haunt his descendants. Link then places the Master Sword in the Temple of Time and returns to Skyloft to live out his life among the clouds with Zelda.
-Ocarina of Time (Young Link) – Years after the first Link saved the skies, Link II, a Hylian boy raised in Kokiri Forest after his mother’s death, meets Zelda II, the Princess of the new land of Hyrule. Zelda II discovers Ganondorf (Demise’s reincarnation, as stated in his curse)’s plot to conquer hyrule by entering the Sacred Real with the three spiritual stones and the Ocarina of Time. Link II stops him in the future, then is returned to the past by Zelda II to relive his lost childhood.
-Majora’s Mask – Link II leaves Hyrule in search of Zelda II, who has left Hyrule. His search brings him to the world of Termina, where he must recover an item called Majora’s Mask to prevent the moon from crashing down on Termina and destroying it.
-A Link to the Past – Link II has found Zelda II and they return to Hyrule. Upon returning, a sorcerer named Aghanim has discovered a way to free Ganon from his sealed imprisonment the seven sages created by using six maidens. Link II saves the maidens, although Ganon is still freed, but Link II kills him.
-Oracle of Seasons – Link II is sent by Zelda II to the land of Holodrum to defeat General Onox, who has kidnapped the goddess Din and is using her to create havoc on the land’s seasons.
-Oracle of Ages – Link II is sent by Zelda II to the land of Labyranna to defeat Veran, who has kidnapped the goddess Nayru and is using her to create havoc on the land’s time. After defeating both Onox and Veran, Link II discovers they were both creations of followers of Ganondorf named Koume and Kotake and were used to create the flames of despair and destruction, which they then used to revive Ganon. Link II kills him again.
-Link’s Awakening – After killing Ganon again, Link II sets sail on a ship but it crashes on the ocean and he ends up stranded on Koholint Island. There he discovers the only way off the island is to gather the eight instruments of the siren and play them in front of the Wind Fish’s egg. Link II does so, and gets off the island, setting sail back for Hyrule.
-The Legend of Zelda – Link II returns to Hyrule only to discover Ganon’s minions have revived him again and he has already been wreaking havoc and has kidnapped Zelda II, hoping to obtain the Triforce. Link II sets out to gather all the pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom and uses his newfound power to kill Ganon again and return peace to Hyrule.
-The Adventure of Link – In another part of Hyrule the king died but would not reveal the location of the Triforce of Wisdom to his son and only his daughter, Zelda III, knew it. Zelda III refused to tell her brother and so the Prince put a sleeping spell on Zelda III with the help of a wizard, putting her in a deep sleep. Link II came and found a way to awaken Zelda III using the six gems given to him by Impa and by completing six challenges across Hyrule. In the end, he obtained the Triforce of Courage again by completing his challenges and reawakened Zelda III. During Link II’s quest, Ganon’s minions still resided around Hyrule and attempted to kill Link II in hopes of using his blood to revive their master. They succeeded after Link II had already saved Zelda III, and Ganon was revived, but chose to remain in hiding for the time being.
-The Minish Cap – Years later, Link III and Zelda IV lived together on a barn by Hyrule Castle. It was a festival day at Hyrule Castle and the winner would receive the legendary Picori Blade. The winner was the wind sorcerer Vaati, who shattered the blade and then plunged Hyrule into darkness. Link III was told by the King to bring the sword to the Picori, who restored it, then tasked Link with finding the four elements throughout the land to restore the blade into the Four Sword. Link III restores it back to the Four Sword and defeats Vaati, along the way meeting a minish creature known as Ezlo who helped Link turn miniature. After Vaati’s defeat, Zelda IV uses a magical hat Vaati had carried to wish all the harm Vaati had done undone.
-The Four Swords – Years later, Vaati had been sealed into the Four Sword. Zelda V suspected the sword’s seal had began weakening and took Link IV to look at it. She was correct, as Vaati had freed himself from the sword and then kidnapped Zelda V into the Temple of Wind, hoping to make her his bride. Link IV drew the Four Sword out of the pedestal and split into four different Links, then set out to find the three goddesses who allowed him entrance into the Temple of Wind. The Links then saved Zelda V and sealed Vaati back into the Four Sword.
-Four Sword Adventures – Vaati is free from the Four Sword again, and Ganondorf finally makes his move by using Vaati to blanket Hyrule in the Dark World and kidnap Zelda V and the six maidens. Link IV draws the Four Sword and emerges into four Links again, defeats Ganondorf and Vaati, seals Ganondorf in the Four Sword and frees Zelda and the maidens in a quest throughout Hyrule.
-Twilight Princess – Hundreds of years later, Ganondorf frees himself from his imprisonment in the Four Sword and discovers the Mirror of Twilight. He attempts to claim it but is stopped by the Sages and sealed into it. In the Twilight Realm, he meets a Twili named Zant, whom he grants immense powers so that Zant can escape the Twilight Realm and cover Hyrule in twilight so that he may rule over it. Zant also uses his powers to free Ganondorf from the Twilight Realm, then destroys the Mirror of Twilight. The Princess of the Twilight Realm, Midna, esaped the Mirror before it was shattered and seeks the help of Princess Zelda VI of Hyrule to stand against Zant. Zelda V was sealed in the twilight in Hyrule Castle, so she turns to a farm boy Link V for help instead. Link V and Midna recover the pieces of the Twilight Mirror and return it to normal and defeat Zant. It turns out however, Ganondorf was only using Zant to distract Link V and Midna while he kidnapped Zelda VI, hoping to gather the three Triforce pieces together and obtain the Triforce again. Link V saves Zelda VI and kills Ganondorf. Midna then returns to the Twilight Realm.
2. Ocarina of Time (Adult Timeline) – Ganondorf has taken over the Sacred Realm and conquered Hyrule. Link II, now an adult after being sealed away seven years, gains the power of the seven sages to seal Ganondorf and fix Hyrule, then Zelda II seals Link II in the past.
-The Wind Waker – Ganondorf eventually escapes his seal and begins destroying Hyrule, with no Link to stop him because Zelda II sealed Link II in the past. The King of Hyrule is forced to wish on the Triforce for Hyrule to be flooded in order to defeat Ganon. Years later, Link VI is born on Outset Island and after his sister is kidnapped by a bird monster, begins on a journey traveling with the King of Hyrule, who has been turned into a boat, to save his sister, obtain the Master Sword, and defeat Ganondorf.
-Phantom Hourglass – after defeating Ganondorf, Link VI continues traveling the seas with Tetra (Zelda VII) and her pirate crew. They stumble across the Ghost Ship, which kidnaps Tetra and throws Link VI off to a distant island. Link VI teams up with a sailor Linebeck and a fairy Ceicla to find the Ghost Ship and save Tetra, and then discover a plot to revive the monster known as Bellum, whom Link VI defeats.
-Spirit Tracks – Years after defeating Bellum, Hyrule begins being rebuilt. Link VII discovers a plot by the evil chancellor Cole and his assistant Byrne to use Zelda VIII’s body to revive the demon king Malladus and wreak havoc on Hyrule. Zelda VIII’s body is taken by Cole but her spirit assists Link VII in his quest to restore the Spirit Tracks to prevent Malladus’ resurrection. Link VI and Zelda VIII restore the Spirit Tracks and obtain the Bow of Light, and use it toe defeat Malladus after he is resurrected in Zelda VIII’s body.

Hey, thanks. So you don't see any problems?

Well because I liked the excuse they gave a few months back, that fans should be left to interpret for themselves; they just needed a few more games to make cover up some plotholes and everything would be fine. But this way takes the big mystery and gives us the answer rather than let us find it for ourselves.Jmh wrote:Why?The Freedom Fighter wrote:Wow, I'm actually a little disappointed.
But I also worry what will and won't be canon. I'd be seriously disappointed if they cut something like the Four Swords or even the Classic series. It may seem unlikely, but after what SOA did for the Sonic timeline, it's possible.

Ah, I see what you mean, I too am going to miss the fun theories with the fans. The Freedom Fighter wrote:Well because I liked the excuse they gave a few months back, that fans should be left to interpret for themselves; they just needed a few more games to make cover up some plotholes and everything would be fine. Also, it appears that a possible translation has been released: http://kotaku.com/5869993/this-might-actually-be-the-official-zelda-timeline
So, if this is true then you won't have to worry about those games being non-canon, Freedom.

Oh good, even this "official" timeline makes your brain shit bricks.
Honestly, I hope the timeline isn't actually made up of alternate universes. The Legend of Zelda turning out to be one big "what if" would be another middle finger courtesy of Nintendo.

This called the "Failure" Timeline where Link dies against Ganondorf thus leading to the events of the true Imprisoning War
Alttp Link is also confirm to be the Oracle Link
After that Original LoZ and AoL takes its place

Hm, I'd say it's a pretty acceptable timeline. Having a third split actually does make more sense than my timeline, now that I think about it. The backstory/prologue for ALttP mentions seven wise men sealing the evil (Ganondorf) away in the Golden Land (Sacred Realm), yet it doesn't mention any legendary hero having helped like the backstories for the other games do. So it would actually make more sense to assume Link died in OoT and the seven wise men, who are different people than the seven sages as Link never obtained their powers, sealed Ganondorf away themselves.
The only thing I don't like is TP being before FSA. That's just so illogical.... FSA would make way more sense if it took place after MM, then came TP. First, Ganondorf was a gerudo in FSA, like he was in OoT, so it could make sense he gained control of Vaati and sealed the maidens while Link was on his quest in MM. Second, Ganondorf died in Twilight Princess but nothing happened to him in the OoT childhood timeline, other than Link leaving Hyrule with the Ocarina of Time so he couldn't enter the Sacred Realm. I really hope they explain sometime why they'd ever put FSA after TP... it's so much more logical to put it before.
Other than FSA taking place after TP though, I can definitely see it as a sensible timeline.

Thanks TFF... I looked more into the website and found another page of theirs. http://www.newnintendo.net/blog/2011/12/20/higher-quality-hyrule-historia-preview-pages/
I guess that explanation could well explain how TP takes place before FSA.
