Apparently, a school board wants to add educational classes about LGBT to its curriculum. And of course the parents are b****ing.

    link

Planned classes would start as soon as kindergarten.

If something like this happened in your school district, would you be for or opposed to it?

Personally I'm for the idea. Teaching kids to accept others regardless of whatever sets them apart (race, sex, religion, sexuality, other differences) is an important thing to learn I think. :)

It'll keep down senseless discrimination against LGBT people, and allow a generally friendlier future generation.

    Discuss.

Docility training of any kind would be good, if it weren't for the fact that people currently need to get much less docile so that they can rise up and take down corrupt and/or stupid government, and possibly, if it exists, the Illuminati. While this would do good for those such as myself, I am against it for the aforementioned reason.

Kinda...weird. If anything, they should teach not to discriminate at all.

It should be dedicated to tolerance as a whole, not just sexual tolerance.

"Kids, you cannot call a gay person a fa**ot, but terms like spooks, heebs, dune coons etc. are totally acceptable".

It's great to hear that they have begun to teach the such, but as The Freedom fighter mentioned, souldn't the school system already be teaching students against discrimination due to race, sexual opinion, and numerous other issues rather than creating a class to teach the such?

I think that there should be a permission slip for the parent. So the children whose parents are open minded to it would ley they child know about it, But I don't they should learn so young as 5.

Yes, too early. wait til at least 5th grade. And with this, why don't we teach against racism and other problems. Oh wait, they'd have too many racist and same sex haters complain... one at a time I guess.

it's good but then kids would run out of insults because instead of calling them gay they'd have to call him/her *scene missing* then the teachers and the students went skipping along the yellow brick road. the end.

They do, but they should be careful even with that. Elementary School should be a place for learning, when we start "teaching" them our opinions at such a young age, it can open the door to indoctrination. Even though we believe what they're being taught is righteous, imagine if public schools taught your religion or state atheism.

I like the idea of a parental permission slip, but even then, I'd rather wait until they're old enough to develop their own critical opinions before we shove ours in their face.

They already teach about equality and being nice to people who are of different races and genders from a young age. I can clearly remember being taught about it all throughout elementary school, and about being sensitive to other people's feelings no matter who they are.

5th grade might be a little too old to teach about treating homosexuals as you'd like to be treated, because by then, a lot of kids will already be homophobic (I can certainly remember the "gay jokes" being thrown around by then).

I don't remember learning anything about that, at least not through actual lessons. I'd say I learned it more through my parents and TV anyway.

That's exactly why we should, if they're old enough to understand gay jokes, they're old enough to actually learn what this program aims to teach them.
