"Whoa, sorry, Will", said the captain, "I'll remember that in future".

Will carried her to the group, where she coughed a bit and remained in Will's arms, her head nuzzled between his arm and his torso.

The captain accompanied Will and Ash, a worried look on his face.

He remembered to check Mly's position on his locket.

Jared fumed as he walked next to Will. The two were extremely close friends, but when it came to Ash, they both got a bit jumpy. Usually, even with Ash, they were okay, but when she was in trouble and someone got to carry her, they both fought. William usually won the fight, claiming that Jared may lose control of his powers and suddenly go transparent, dropping the girl that both of them love.

The captain noticed that Jared and Will were rather jumpy for some reason. Looking at the tense expression on Jared's face, it was almost as though Jared wanted to carry Ash. The captain shook his head, such matters being beyond his comprehension.

"Ash, are you okay?" Jared asked. "Do you want me to carry you?"
The Captain's theory was proved right, and Will shot Jared a bone-chilling glare.
"I'm perfectly fine, Jared," Ash said weakly. However, she did let Jared put a hand on her head.

"Guys, stop arguing over carrying Ash", the captain said to Jared and Will.

"What do you know?" Will asked stubbornly.

"I know that we're on an important mission", said the captain, "I also know that arguing over who will carry Ash is not important now".

Will shot the captain another furious glance, but they continued to walk. Eventually, Ash fell asleep in Will's arms. To his greatest sorrow, Jared already knew the truth: Will had won over her and she would never be married to the girl of his dreams.

Will laughed, and as Ash let her forcefield dissipate, the bullet skidded across the street and into the sewer.

"The main objective right now is to keep Ash, Will and Jared safe", the captain told Hemlock.

"Us? I thought you were the one in trouble," Jared remarked smartly. "And all of us together are stronger than your wildest dreams. Not to mention that Ash has her necklace and Will has his coin." The Captain couldn't see any coin in sight, and Will kept silent.

"You may be strong, but that doesn't mean that you don't need protection", said the captain to Jared.

"I'm pretty sure we don't," Will growled, "and I can demonstrate if you'd like." Will actually passed Ash to Jared, who hugged her tightly. She seemed comfortable to be with him, and as she gained her strength, Jared took his time stroking her.

"That won't be necessary, Will.", said the captain, "In any case, we are here to aid you".

"We don't need aid," Will growled. Sensing that she was going to be okay for now, Jared set Ash down and she walked by him for support. "Anyway, we need to stop soon for the night. Ash isn't feeling well and there's some business to be settled."

"That sounds like a good idea, Will", said the captain, "I'm quite tired and could do with rest".

"Is anybody hungry?", he asked a few minutes later.

"Yeah," the three chorused.
"But if I go in my ghost form for a while, I won't need to eat until I go back."
"No," Will said. "We'll all eat. We're still in the city. I can pay for a hotel, and there's a McDonald's over there." Will added a hiss to the end of his statement. He really did hate fast food.

"Well, that's wonderful!", said the captain.

The four of them went into the McDonald's to order their food.

Eating quickly, the four discussed where they would go next. "I'm still confused," Will said. "What exactly are we looking for?"

"That's a good question", said the captain, "What are we looking for, Ash?"

"I don't know, y'all dragged us out here," Will said.

"Well, this might be a good opportunity to plan our next move", said the captain.
