Anyway, the game has been out in Japan for some time and I think it was confirmed for March in the USA (not sure about Europe).
Definitely looking forward to it though.
And yes, the 2nd generation brought in a lot of stuff which wasn't in the first, like:
- The ability for Pokemon to 'hold' items
- The ability to evolve Pokemon via trade while holding items
- Breeding
- Dark and Steel types
- Weather
- Alternate Pokeballs (Apricots)
- Traveling through both Kanto and Johto
- 16 badges
Etc...
