I wasn't really much of a fan of Chao, or the whole "virtual pet" craze of the 90s. Unless the Chao can serve a story purpose like they did in SA1, I wouldn't really care.

I would totally buy a video game based solely around chaos. i raise mine all the time and love doing it. if they simply just updated the software from SA2B with a story for chao it would be a 5 star game

Too late, they already made Chao Adventure over 10 years ago for the VMU.
I can see SEGA's problem, though. Sonic Adventure 2 pretty much perfected the concept of Chao. Anything else will just look subpar. However, there's a plothole with that theory, because they didn't do the same to the entire Sonic series in general. Unfocused priorities maybe.

I think they should return but in different conditions:
Shouldn't be used to unlock anything main game related. Problem I see with this is priorities toward the development where instead of caring for a side quest they can focus on the main game itself.
OR
Provide assistance to the main game. Like winning items in contests, partnering up with chao for abilities or maybe "cheat code" options for fun.

I think there should be a "true" SA3 or at least another SA2 remake to revive the chao garden. In the modern age, the chao garden will only prosper even more with online play.
