So.. As you are all aware SEGA has announced Sonic Boom. Both the game and the TV series to be exact.. And they both has been rather, uh, "interesting" to say the least. But the point is, do you feel hopeful for this game? Do you think it will be a waste like Sonic "Lost Cause" ( I dislike that game ) or will it be a success?
I'm shaken on my own answer to be honest. the game certainly looks fun, but so did the previous title and look at the criticize it received. I actually do think however, that this will be a much better title.

( If you do post an answer, please don't comment only on their redesigns, ridiculous as they may be )

It's a new Sonic and a spin off. When sonic games bring in new concepts, they're either hit or miss with fans (And then there are those who just reject everything and say Sonic's been dead since adventure...) So regardless, there are people who are gonna think its trash whatever happens.

I see some good and bad from the Wii U version. Game play looks interesting enough. Some speed segments but focuses more on combat and exploration. I'm cool with both but I know some people are gonna have problems with the latter (Bad Werehog Memories?) The environments looks colorful and vivid. One thing that's kind of miss for me is the humor ( I like the TV series' comedy though), which has been an off for me since colors. And Sticks... lol, I just don't like her. I do really like the emphasis on the characters' personalities though. I wanna see where that goes.

I'm curious to what you didn't like about Lost World though.

Sonic's been far too reliant on nostalgia as of late. An entire game was created to cater for just that (Generations). Change is always welcome in my opinion. However, creating spin off series separate from the original Sonic universe to act as a sort of 'safety net' in case things go bad... Is not good design. Sega needs to be more confident with their commitments.

Moreover, I feel they need to make a decision about which sort of gamers they're trying to appeal to. Because it cannot go both ways, and Sega cannot please everyone. The differences in gameplay, plot depth, and character design are vast when you compare games like the Adventure series, or Sonic 06, with games like Colors and Generations.

TLDR; Sega need a new sense of direction. And I feel the Boom series adds to the fragmentation of it all.

I'm honestly looking forward to both games and the cartoon. However there's always going to be fans who don't like the direction that Sega is going with Sonic Boom. I can understand why, some fans have been quite disappointed with the recent Sonic games and some fans stated that Sonic Boom looks too much like Rachet and Clank. (You be the judge of that, as I've never actually played any of those games. :V) Shattered Crystal looks much more appealing than Rise of Lyric IMO. It looks like it plays more like the classic Sonic games, whereas Rise of Lyric reminds me so much of Sonic Unleashed. (You got your speed levels that look like they play the same as Sonic's levels, then you have the levels that play like a beat 'em up that resemble the Werehog's stages...) So do I think it's a lost cause? Honestly I don't, because this may appeal to new fans of the series. All in all, their target audience will enjoy this new take on the blue blur and that's exactly what Sega wants to see. Remember this isn't replacing modern Sonic, and I'm sure another game will be released next year that won't be related to Sonic Boom. :P

Something to note, Sonic Boom is the final game in the Nintendo-Sega partnership (Mario and Sonic, Lost World being the other two). Even if the exclusivity deal didn't directly affect game design, which I'm sure in some way it did, I want to know what Sega's next move move with Sonic is gonna be. Hopefully pushing the Hedgehog Engine to new limits on Ps4 and XBone.

Well the Wii U game looks really dull and uninteresting, the 3DS game seems pretty good, and I am also looking forward to the cartoon. Dunno if I will read the comics or not. Overall, it seems ok, I just don't like the ugly redesigns, and am really hoping they don't overtake the main series or anything like that.

I'm sure it'll work out. I'm mainly hopeful for the series over the games. This series might be more worth watch than Sonic X, which I've been waiting for.
