Best Rivals?!?

Who is Sonic's besterst rival? Metals, Knux, Shadow, Jet, er Silver??

It's a hard choice for me. I don't know who'd make a better rival.

Each brought something nice to the table, but I'm inclined to go with Jet, since he is still a rival, unlike the others who pretty much gave up on that.

Shadow.

Jet is lame and doesn't rival Sonic in any area besides extreme gear skill.

Metal is more of a nemesis than just a rival. Also he has no soul.

Silver and Knuckles are Sonic's friends now.

I chose two. Shadow and Jet.

I would love to see Knuckles make some sort of comeback as a rival like character, but really, I don't see that happening. That's a pipedream.

I'm inclined to think that Shadow and Jet are the only two who really want to get on Sonic's bad side and make things difficult for him. Shadow moreso than Jet, but that's just my opinion. I see Shadow as Sonic's biggest rival because he serves as a huge threat to Sonic. You can't come up with another high profile hedgehog aside from Sonic other than Shadow.

Knuckles. I love it when they fight. XD I would say Shadow, Silver or Jet, but I hate those characters so I'll just stick to Knuckles.

I'll try to stick to going by who'd make the best rival rather then who I like or dislike. But I don't dislike any of them so it's still a hard choice.

Honestly, Jet's the one who actually serves as an actual rival. More so than anyone else. I demand he be in Rivals 3 if it's made.

I like Shadow the most out of them. But he's not much of a rival, because he want to fight Sonic all the time like Metal does. And Nuggles used to be a great rival but now.... :silent:

Since I wasn't there for the time of the Sonic and Knuckles rviarly thing in the old generation the only times I saw them acting like rivals was in Sonic X. I can't really feel your pain sorry to say.

Yeah. That's it. Knuckles also appears periodically throughout the game springing traps on Sonic to hinder his progress. It all leads up to a fairly disappointing boss fight in Sonic & Knuckles after which they become allies.

So it was Sonic 3 my uncles had then eh? Wish I could say I had a lot of fun playing it.

Metal Sonic. Knuckles and Silver are on his side, Jet is of no concern to Sonic, and Sonic is of no concern to Shadow.

Jet is of concern to Sonic as far as the games they've been in can tell.

Rivalry doesn't have much to do with who's better at what. One-sided or not it's about trying to outdue the other and if you've all ready done so you try to maintain your status. If Sonic didn't care at all he probably would've disregarded any of Jet's challenges and went on with his own way of taking care of things. And Sonic let him keep the prize because there was nothing he could do with it. Rivalry doesn't have much to do with that. If he doesn't need it might as well give it to someone who does. That's how Sonic is.

And I know it doesn't matter but Wave cheated for him with either or them knowing.

A rivalry, by definition, must be reciprocated. Sonic only challenged Jet at first to get the Chaos Emeralds back, after he did at the Babylon Garden, he had no further interest in him. And although it was perfectly in-character of Sonic to let the loser keep the prize, the way he said it to the person he just humiliated at his own game was rather condescending.

And Jet was well aware of the sabotage.

If you were too put it that way then Sonic in reality doesn't have any real rivals. Of course, they were all in situations where gathering the emeralds was crucial. I'm going by what I've seen and how they act here because of it. Maybe if Sonic had treated Jet with a whole bunch of unhindered malice and simply ignored his direct actions and focused more on the emeralds then anything else instead then I'd believe you. But the emeralds had little significance in the game at all anyway so I'd say the Riders game was least out of all the other rival confrontations that were overshadowed by the fact that they needed the emeralds. And I'm not seeing how the way Sonic said it to Jet should matter. He could've said it the same way to Eggman and not have made any dent in the way they go about viewing each other. It's their actions that truely do it for me.

And I'm also not sure how you know Jet was well aware of it. Wave put it there herself while Jet wasn't around and they didn't show any scene of her telling him about it. The best way to precieve it would be to assume he didn't know about it.

I have to agree with rolllerblitz. Jet and Sonic aren't really good rivals, it's nothing like Sonic and Metal Sonic.

Jet didn't necessarily cheat; it was Wave who planted the bomb.
That doesn't mean there wasn't a rivalry.

No, Sonic considered him competition, not just another enemy. And unlike the other rivalries that faded away, it was still going in SR:ZG.

If he was aware that he only won because someone sabotaged Sonic, the fact that he still rubs his "victory" in Sonic's face still says plenty about him.

The thing is, not many people will recognize a character being a great rival by being in 2 spinoffs and appearing in a multilayer mode of another.
