Shadow's lost his touch to the point where he's just a lifeless character floating around in a body, and Knuckles is on the sidelines cheering for Sonic now. If anything, these guys hold a friendly rivalry with Sonic.
Metal however, is a determined foe out after Sonic, hellbent on beating him. Plus he's just awesome, and the original.
