Unfortunately, the opening ceremonies were marred by the death of a competitor. Nodar Kumaritashvilli, 21, died from injuries suffered in a luge crash. He flew off the track at over 90 MPH, then struck a steel pole. Rescue workers got to him less than a minute after, then he was transported to the trauma center where he was pronounced dead. Kumaritashvilli was from the former Soviet territory of Georgia and he hailed from Borjomi, which the area was a candidate for the 2014 Winter Olympics that went to Sochi, Russia. The Georgian team decided to compete as planned, but now without a teammate. They will sport black armbands to show their grief. The nation of Georgia weeps today as one of her native sons has tragically died.

This was actually mentioned earlier. It was unfortunate that this occured, especially at such a moment. He was going to have his moment of fame, but he was taken away from him. Once again, may he rest in peace.

And now there's controversy over whether or not Georgia should have shown Kumaritashvilli's death on national TV. I say they shouldn't have since the people, especially the man's family, already had the grief of the fact he died from such a horrific accident. Why show all the grisly details?

I watched a bit of the Speed Skating last night. Oh boy, almost every guy on the track spun out and it was just hilarious.

The speed skating is my favorite event so far. It was especially funny to see that huge guy guy racing when he was a foot taller than everyone else.Erazor wrote:I watched a bit of the Speed Skating last night. Oh boy, almost every guy on the track spun out and it was just hilarious.

Speaking of speed skating, Yahoo! Sports reports Netherlands speed skating sensation Sven Kramer finished 1st in the 10,000m speed skate. The problem was, with eight laps to go, his coach told him to go to the inside lane when he should have gone to the outside. He finished 7.57 seconds ahead of Lee Seung-hoon of South Korea, who won the gold medal after Kramer was disqualified. Kramer said he skated the best 10,000 of his career, but because of one communication error, he forgot to change lanes, and as a result, this goes down as one of the worst blunders in sports history.

That sucks. All that hard work for nothing, and that's a really long race.Mario94 wrote:Speaking of speed skating, Yahoo! That USA vs. Canada hockey game was great, though.

We have actually done quite well in terms of Medals this year. At the current moment, we are actually tied with Germany for first in terms of Gold Medals. I'm hoping that Canada wins against Slovakia most of all though. That way, we can get revenge for the humiliating defeat last week.

Or you can get even more humiliated. And actually, they have more than Germany. http://www.vancouver2010.com/Miles24 wrote:Chaos_Overlord wrote:I want Canada to get medals. Plain and simple
